Joanna Maidment

About me

Joanna Maidment was born in Poland and now lives, writes and works on Wurundjeri land in Melbourne. After a long stint in public health as a project manager, she returned to her first love: writing fiction. In 2023, she completed a Graduate Diploma of Writing and Publishing at RMIT, determined to carve out a life steeped in books, words and literary rebellion.

Joanna writes about love, sex, family, and all the beautiful mess they can leave behind. Her work challenges the tired scripts women are handed—wife, mother, carer—and instead celebrates desire, agency and emotional chaos with sharp intent and explicit truths.

Her short stories and poetry have appeared in Lickerish Library, The Emigre, Bowen Street Press, and the (now defunct) Erotic Review. You’ll also find her on Substack, where she shares her latest work and musings.

I acknowledge I live and work on the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. I pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging. This is and always will be Aboriginal land.
